Sue Merren — Owner/Operator
Sue Merren, owner/operator of Innovative Fitness Pilates & Personal Training, is an ACE-certified Personal Trainer and Stott Pilates certified instructor. Originally from Vancouver, Canada, she now resides in the beautiful Cayman Islands with her husband and son.
In 2000, Sue left her accounting career to pursue her passion for fitness and helping others and earned her ACE Personal Training certification. Soon after, she earned her Stott Pilates certification, specializing in Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, and Injuries and Special Populations. ..more
In addition to her Stott certification, Sue is currently apprenticing directly under the guidance of Rael Isacowitz, founder of the prestigious and world renowned BASI Pilates®. BASI is a leading Pilates education academy, with a reputation for innovation, dedication and academic excellence. BASI Pilates preserves the legacy of Joseph and Clara Pilates, while complementing their method with contemporary scientific knowledge.
Learning the Pilates method of movement has been, and continues to be, an amazing journey and one that she enjoys sharing with her clients. It has given her a more thorough understanding of anatomical movement and the mind~body connection, and gives her the ability to work with clients of all fitness levels ranging from the highly athletic, to those requiring post-rehabilitative care. Her calm, relaxed teaching style combined with her extensive training and experience makes clients feel comfortable and confident. Sue truly believes that movement is medicine for the mind, body, and spirit.
Sue has most recently become Caymans first certified Barre fitness instructor, earning her Barre certification and working directly under the tutelage of celebrity fitness trainer Tracey Mallet, creator of the Booty Barre. She is proud to now offer Booty Barre classes and private sessions to the residents of Cayman! The Booty Barre method is the hottest Barre workout in the world! It combines the best of Pilates with elements of Dance, Yoga, and Cardio Sculpting. The method is built with integrity, based on the fundamentals of Pilates and sound biomechanics. The work emphasizes lifting and firming the “booty”, while maximizing calorie burn and strengthening the core musculature. Booty Barre is a fun, high energy group fitness experience!
Sue has also earned other fitness certifications, including BCRPA, Can-Fit-Pro, AFAA Group Fitness, and Yamuna Body Rolling. She is also a member of IDEA, and Pilates Method Alliance. In keeping up to date with the latest in fitness and wellness issues, she continues her education by attending workshops and conferences annually throughout North America. She is also a certified Wellness Coach and has a passion for designing personalized wellness programs to suit a myriad of individuals. She uses a holistic approach to guide her clients through not only the physical (body) challenges of living a healthy lifestyle, but the mindful and spiritual as well.
In 2004, Sue pursued her dream to compete professionally as a Figure Athlete, and competed in her first competition placing 1st to earn her WNBF pro card. After the birth of her son, she continued to compete professionally and placed 1st in her first Pro Figure competition in the IFPA federation, and continues to enjoy competing to this day. She is proud of the fact that she is a natural athlete and credits her success to the Pilates method as the foundation to her fitness lifestyle. The Pilates method has allowed her to train hard and remain injury free due to following the amazing movement principles the method provides.
Sue has appeared in "Best Body", "Fitness and Physique", and "Natural Bodybuilding and Fitness" international fitness publications. For fun, she is always up for some friendly competition in many of the islands running and cycling races. She also loves to play acoustic guitar, and is a self-confessed foodie and loves to cook when time allows. Sue's contagious enthusiasm and dedication to living a balanced and healthy lifestyle motivates her clients to become their personal best.
